A Few Comments on This Fall’s Heartland Summit at CUW

“Dr. Ferry's talk stays with me…and the tough demographic and social challenges Christian schools are facing in the next decade. I am concerned every day for the future of Lutheran Education.”
– Don E. Gillingham, Executive Director, Rockford Lutheran High School (Rockford, IL)

“The sectional on Diversity may have been the thing that stuck with me because I have not done anything deliberate with our staff on this topic. I was just assuming. I plan to present this topic in our February professional day. I will also introduce trauma informed teaching.”
– David Burgess, Executive Director-Principal, Racine Lutheran High School (Racine, WI)

“I took many things away from the summit that I am using. However, If I have to pick one thing I am going to go with the ideas that Dr. Holtan presented on maximizing meeting time. I lead a weekly staff meeting and since the summit I believe that I have improved these meetings through Planning, Facilitating and Following up.”
– Jim McClellan, Principal, NEW Lutheran High School (Green Bay, WI)

“My take away was the diversity of talents in the room each and every day and how we can learn from the experiences of others who have ‘fought the good fight’ for many years and with many ways of handling our own respective ministries that God has blessed us with.”
– Dr. Jay Krause, Executive Director, Metro-East Lutheran High School, (Edwardsville, IL)

“I appreciated a few concepts shared by Jennifer Gryniewicz:

  • Ask the donor how they want to be recognized

  • Have the students say “thank you”

  • Give the potential donor a chance to say “yes” (provide a checklist that starts with “pray for our team”)

Some of these concepts are things that might already generally be taking place via our LHSAGM office, but I appreciated learning about these concepts directly and finding ways to incorporate them on a smaller scale with minor donations too.”
– Katie Baganz, Principal, Lake Country Lutheran High School (Hartford, WI)

“I really enjoyed the research presentation from CUNE regarding high school scheduling. I came back with some good questions for our group that continue to help us think through the way we offer education each day, from a time perspective. In addition, having so many experienced folks in the room, as well as supporters from groups like LCEF, again proves that these get-togethers are worth it many times over!”
– Mychal Thom, Head of School, Concordia Lutheran High School (Fort Wayne, IN)
